Hiking

Where: Cypress Mountain (Eagle Bluffs and Black Mountain); The Stawamus Chief Hike in Squamish; Lynn Canyon Valley*.

Price: Includes car rental, gas, food&drinks required to function, approximately $40 per person.

Tips: Take a good pair of hiking shoes. Book vehicle in advance. That way you can find a really good deal, sometimes even ridiculous, check out Enterprise.

Biking

Where: Around Stanley Park; North Vancouver; West Vancouver*.
Price: $25-35 per day or ~$300 for bike.

Tips: There are bunch of rental places, just ask around. If you are staying here for half a year or longer invest in buying your own bike, you will be able to sell it before leaving very fast using Craigslist. Buy a good lock!

Summer

Slackline

Where: English Bay; Kitsilano Beach; Stanley Park 2nd Beach*.
Price: $40 on Amazon or MEC.

Tips: Look for warranty.

Frisbee

Where: English Bay; Stanley Park 3rd Beach; Spanish Banks*.
Price: $8-25 one of the best can be found here.

Tips: don't be cheap, buy one but good one, it pays off.

Beach Volleyball

Where: Jericho Beach; Sunset Beach; Kitsilano Beach*.
Price: free or $40 per day, including rent of the net and ball (~$5/ person).

Tips: join gaming team or rent at the gaming place, otherwise just buy your own equipment here.

Kayaking

Price: $16-25 per hour.

Tips: there are single-seat kayak, double-seat kayak, pedal board, check your options before making purchase.

Camping

Where: Squamish; Chilliwack; Sasmat Lake*.
Price: expenses to get to the lake plus food&drink comes to ~$30-50.

Tips: renting car pays off, as you can bring all you need without extra hassle.

Soccer(football)

Where: Sunset Beach (green area)*.
Price: free.

Tips: Look for chance to join gaming teams.

Stanley Park Second Beach Calisthenics

Where: Stanley Park Second Beach (at the bars)*.
Price: free.

Tips: Check out the group. Bring your friends because its not only about exercises it is also about communication, love and positive vibes.

Autumn

Night Clubs

Where: Library Square; Celebrities; The Roxy*.
Price: $5-15 for entrance, plus expenses at the bar.

Tips: pre-purchase tickets online in advance, it will save you a lot of time at the entrance.

Pumpkin Pick Up Events

Where: Richmond Country Farms*.
Price: $20-30 including transportation and fun at the farm.

Tips: Bring your rubber boots, it's muddy.

Winter

Snowboarding/Skiing

Where: Cypress Mountain; Whistler; Grouse Mountain*.
Price: starting at $300 per season or $45 daily (if pre-purchase).

Tips: if you are planning to do it more than once, buy your own equipment it will cost you starting from $70 (snowboard+bindings+shoes+pants+jacket+gloves) if you use Value Village. Or get full season gear from Cypress Mountain Resort.

Hot Springs

Where: Squamish; Whistler; Chilliwack*.
Price: free if at wild spot or included into the price of the resort expenses.

With students always focusing on studies or their part time jobs, they need to balance it with entertainment. This gives students a mental break from time to time to relax and enjoy themselves. Here are 5 ways in which students can enjoy themselves with some entertainment.

1. Yuk Yuk Comedy club – Everybody loves to laugh, and this is the best place in Vancouver to do it. Yuk Yuk offers the best local comedy talent as well as special shows that include up and comers as well as students from other colleges. Tickets are usually around $20, and they have showings on almost every day of the week. They offer different type of comedians, so you can venture out and see who you find the funniest.

2. Rogers Arena tour – Host of the biggest ticket in town, Rogers Arena hosts the Vancouver Canucks. We all know tickets are very expensive, so why not book a tour and visit the place that held the 2010 Winter Olympics. Tours are offered twice a week and are about $12 per person. This is a great way to see what the Vancouver Canucks are all about and possibly set up the next step in going to a hockey game.

3. Stanley Park Horse Drawn Tours – Venture Stanley Park in an old-fashioned carriage. Tours are 1 hour long and you have a tour guide highlighting the history and features of Stanley Park. Tours start every day with about 20-30 minutes’ start times from each other making it very easy to access. This is a great way to learn about the history of Stanley Park located in downtown Vancouver.

4. Krakit escape room – This is a great way to do a team bonding experience. This sensation has been taking over the world recently and it’s a lot of fun! Escape a room through puzzled like adventures with a team of friends. There are different themed rooms with different puzzles waiting to be completed. Tickets are $25 per person, but if you can manage to go on a Tuesday, the prices drop to $14.

5. Capilano Suspension Bridge – This bridge has been hosting tours since 1983 and is one of the highlighted tours Vancouver has to offer. Walk 110 feet above forest floor and see the beautiful nature BC has to offer. They offer group tours so you and a group of friends can go enjoy the beautiful habitat. When going as a group, tickets are far more cheaper, so we recommend you do it with a group of friends.

With almost everybody indulging in smart phones these days, good apps are hard to come by. Most of them are good but require one or more time purchases. Here we will focus on 5 valuable apps that are free and are essential to success as a student.

1. Dropbox – Dropbox is a cloud service that automatically syncs files and folders between multiple platforms (Computers, IPads, IPhones). This app includes a built-in reader so you can view PDFs, image files, and Microsoft office files. These are all things that are commonly used for school and it’s a great way to organize your storage of files.

2. PayPal – With many students having phones, but not owning a checkbook or carrying large amounts of cash with them, PayPal works great. PayPal is an application where you can send or receive money anywhere. It saves you a trip to the bank, and is a great way to make online purchases. PayPal is very secure and they have great protection, so this is a no-brainer.

3. WhatsApp – With most students having to take some classes that involve group projects, WhatsApp is great at connecting everyone. Just by simply adding peoples phone numbers, you can create a group with your fellow group partners and discuss details about your project. WhatsApp also allows you to send pictures and links to documents so everyone can stay up to date with project assignments.

4. LinkedIn – It’s not too early to start planning for the future, and LinkedIn is a great source to help you. After your done school, you would like to begin a new job involving expertise in your studied area. LinkedIn is like your online resume where you input your jobs and studies, and businesses that are looking for new employees will look through LinkedIn for potential candidates. You get the latest updates and messages from your network and keep them up-tp-date with your status in real-time.

5. Google Drive – Another simple cloud storage device that is free. With Google Drive, you can store videos, photos, and other documents. An added bonus is that it supports offline file viewing so you don’t have to waste data downloading photos when not in a Wi-Fi area. It’s also easy to share documents with others, as well as give people the option to edit documents in your Google Drive.
